Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday is observed by many Christian denominations as a day of self-examination and consideration of wrongs they need to make right and where they need God’s help in obtaining that goal. It is customary to “clear the cupboards” of richer foods before ritual fasts during Lent.
The Way of the Cross
The devotion known as the Way of the Cross (also known as Stations of the Cross) is an adaptation to local usage of a custom widely observed by pilgrims to Jerusalem: the offering of prayer at a series of places in that city traditionally associated with our Lord’s passion and death. There are fourteen stations, of these, eight are based directly on events recorded in the Gospels. The remaining six are based on inferences from the Gospel account or from pious legend. Traditionally, the stations are made before a series of plain wooden crosses placed along the walls of the church or in some other convenient place. As part of the finding God in Nature series of hikes, we will be doing the service outdoor. Specifically, along the trail at Fall Run Park, 187 Fall Run Rd. Glenshaw, PA 15116. This trail is well maintained and mostly level, so should be reasonably accessible to almost anyone. The total distance is under a mile. Each Friday in Lent, Father Brandon will be leading this service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. This will be rain or shine, and usually lasts about 45 minutes.
Prayer Experiment Series
Join us for 5 Fridays this Lent on an exploration of contemplative prayer. We will be delving into five deep prayer practices honed by the medieval monastics, including: Praying with Color, Centering prayer, the Examen, the Labyrinth and the Rosary. We will look at how to use these methods to pray, as well as specific prayers we can say when engaging with them. 5:30-6:45 pm on the following dates: March 7, 14, 21, April 4, 11. Please RSVP to Ellen Seagraves.

Maundy Thursday
The Maundy Thursday Table Eucharist & Supper has been a custom at Christ Church for nearly 50 years! The typical Rite II Holy Eucharist service begins at 6:30 p.m. in the candelit undercroft. At The Peace we break for dinner which usually consists of a lamb dish, greens, and dried fruit. The service then continues with communion before processing upstairs for the Stripping of the altar.
